Ask a Librarian

Ask a Librarian is a free online service that allows you to ask a question to the enquiries team at the National Library of Wales. The National Library’s dedicated, knowledgeable and bilingual enquiries staff are available to answer enquiries which are based on the varied collections held at the Library, as well as basic genealogical enquiries, simply by completing the form below. Questions relating to local issues or general knowledge should be directed to your local library. To find contact details for your closest library, please visit the My Digital Library page.

The National Library aim to reply to 90% of all enquiries received within 10 working days, but some complex enquiries, or those which are designated Freedom of Information enquiries, may take up to 20 working days to answer.

The enquiries team can provide services including the following:

  • Search for individuals or households from census data

  • Search for specific newspaper articles or photographs
  • Confirm bibliographic details of books and articles
