You will find them at their new home in Trinity Chapel on Church Street. With funding from Welsh Government, the disused Trinity Chapel has been refurbished to provide the library on the ground floor. The first floor houses the computer access for library users, with continued free Wi-Fi and the community hub services, and adult community learning courses will be run from the second floor. All floors have easy access with a lift to assist those who need it.

Councillor John Morgan, Blaenau Gwent Council’s Cabinet Member for Place & Regeneration and Economic Development said:

“This is an exciting time for Abertillery town centre. Working with our partners at Aneurin Leisure Trust, we want to make Trinity Chapel a thriving hub for the town, fostering support for education, community initiatives and town centre activities. It will also house our Community Hub in a town centre location, giving residents easy access to a range of council services and advice.

“The redevelopment of Trinity Chapel forms part of a wider ongoing Placemaking Plan for Abertillery and complements other regeneration related schemes which have recently been delivered in the town centre.”

Tracy Jones, library services manager for Blaenau Gwent Libraries said: “The new library space is incredible, and my team and I have worked hard to make sure that all of our members will find the new environment a pleasure to use.

“We’re excited to welcome back all of our groups and partners, and we hope that the new space will help us develop a more sustainable model of service delivery, which will further enhance our services to people and their community.”

Phill Sykes, operations director for Aneurin Leisure Trust said: “We believe that the new space makes for a fantastic addition to Abertillery town centre.  The adult community learning provision has got wonderful facilities.  We appreciate that a barrier to a number of people engaging with learning was the fact the previous centre was on school grounds.  By providing a resource with exceptional facilities we hope will encourage more people to try new courses.”

Abertillery Library & Community Education Centre is situated at Trinity Chapel, Church Street, Abertillery NP13 1DB.  The refurbishment is a collaboration between Blaenau Gwent Council, Aneurin Leisure Trust and Welsh Government. Funding has been secured from Welsh Government’s Transforming Towns Regeneration Programme, Low Carbon Heat Grant, UK Government Shared Prosperity funding and the Transformational Capital Grant for libraries.
