The project concept originated from the Welsh Libraries Fortnight marketing campaign which took place during the first two weeks of November. The theme for the events was the London 2012 Cultural Olympiad programme. They decided to organise a photography competition entitled “Me and my sport” to inspire creativity and promote the Olympic and Paralympic values. The competition was organised and administered by all four library campuses for all five college sites.
Learners and staff were encouraged to enter a photo of themselves or a group photo participating in a sporting activity either within college or in their own time. To include those that didn’t play sports, but participated in other ways e.g. fan, referee etc., they asked them to submit a photograph of what they do. The competition commenced on Tuesday 1st November 2011 and ran for two weeks.
Judge’ s comments:
An execution that was creative in the tie into the cultural aspect of the Olympics and again a campaign that uses this aspect to leverage attention. Particularly strong in the setting of objectives – but these could have been SMART (er) in their development. The entry was strong in the sustainability mark and the concept can be easily replicated at a future date – especially with the purchase of the display boards. I did question why an iPod and not a digital camera as a prize? But nonetheless a strong entry and a close second.
